Based upon assignment, incumbents may have supervisory responsibilities related to patrol shifts, criminal investigators or non-supervisory responsibilities in administrative support. Patrol related duties include responding to and supervising response to calls for services, investigating complaints, and writing and approving reports. Investigation related duties include reading reports to determine follow-up required, making case assignments, conducting investigations, and responding to requests from outside agencies. Administrative duties include writing and evaluating bid documents, recommending process improvements, and managing public information and media relations
This recruitment for Sergeant will be assigned to Detectives. Grants Pass Department of Public Safety has 57 sworn police officers, five of which are assigned to the Detective Unit. The Detective Sergeant is directly responsible for the unit supervision which includes: Reviewing all cases referred and assigned to detectives, Department of Human Services referrals, and the management of detective caseloads and assignments. The Detective Sergeant is also assigned as the department liaison to the Josephine County Major Crimes Team. The Detective Sergeant collaborates with the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement supervisor to enhance the department’s response to illicit drugs in and around the community. The Detective Sergeant is supervised by a Police Lieutenant.
