The 20th “Art Along the Rogue” chalk art festival kicks off on October 6, 2023, with a theme of "Blockbusters on the Block." Whether it’s a classic film like "Star Wars" or the latest Indiana Jones movie, artists will use a favorite to fuel their inspiration.
This year, more than 40 artists will be drawing on the streets at 5th and H downtown. Featured artists Evar Galvez and Saryn Chan will be creating works in 3D.
Since its inception in 2003, Art Along the Rogue has grown into one of Grants Pass' premier community events. This year, more than 20 community sponsors are supporting the artists and festival like never before.
Art Along the Rogue is one of the leading street chalk and music festivals in the state and attracts thousands of visitors to Grants Pass during autumn. This year's festival schedule: Friday, October 6, 5:30 to 9 pm, Saturday, October 7, 9 am to 9 pm, and Sunday, October 8, 10 am to 5:30 pm
Children can create art free of charge using one of the 1,200 squares available. The 24 square-inch spaces will be marked off by Project Youth Plus on Saturday morning. There will be 450 gift bags of chalk and supplies available for the young artists. Their art does not have to be a literal interpretation; the very act of joyfully creating an original piece on the street is exactly what the event is meant to be about.
On Sunday, there will be an interactive scavenger hunt for attendees. The 13 featured artists will be including “easter egg” hints in their art for people to follow to try and win a prize. And, the work of one of the 13 featured artists will be honored as the “People’s Choice” winner, with their art being featured on the 2024 festival T-shirt.
In addition to the numerous restaurants within a block of the festival, three food cart vendors will be serving food, and various local artists will be selling their creations. The Owl Parking Lot will be the scene for live music each day as well.
G Street will be closed on Sunday for the installation of permanent crosswalk art at the intersection of 5th and G, thanks to a partnership with Visit Grants Pass, Travel Oregon, and the City of Grants Pass, to celebrate our community and the 20th anniversary of Art Along the Rogue.
