Grant Obtained to Provide Parking at Dollar Mountain

Park Updates keep up with Dollar Mountain news

GRANTS PASS – The City of Grants Pass has obtained a grant from the Bureau of Land Management in the amount of $80,497 for the development of a parking area at the Crescent Rim trailhead of Dollar Mountain. The grant period is through August 2024.

“The City of Grants Pass is excited to partner with the Bureau of Land Management to provide a safer and more accessible location for residents and visitors to access Dollar Mountain,” said Director of Community Development Brad Clark.

The objectives of the overall project include improving access to the existing Dollar Mountain Trail. The parking area will be a key access point for the future expansion of the trail system which will include lands managed by City of Grants Pass, Josephine County, and Bureau of Land Management.

“Whether folks are out to explore the flora, bird watch, hike, or mountain bike, these 11 off-street, day-use parking spaces will make it easier and more enjoyable to visit the mountain. The parking lot will help to eliminate some of the uncertainty the city has heard about parking along the Crescent Drive shoulder,” said Clark.

Phases and performance goals of the project include the development of a Request for Proposals, contractor selection, initiation of the project, project completion, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony when it is done. The final phase will be the reseeding of any areas disturbed by the construction.

“We believe the new signs, crosswalk, lighting, and gates will improve the overall experience for users. We truly believe this is a win-win-win project for the public, BLM, and the city,” Clark said.
