[ARCHIVED] Final Call for Poster Contest Entries!

Water is Life Sample Poster

GRANTS PASS - As part of National Drinking Water Week celebrations, Grants Pass youth are invited to submit hand-drawn, original art posters celebrating the importance of water and the Rogue River. Across the nation, local utilities and government agencies are joining to celebrate National Drinking Water Week, May 3-9. This year’s theme is “There When You Need It.”

The theme is particularly timely for Grants Pass, according to Public Works Director Jason Canady.

“The city council has made a tremendous commitment to ensuring the Grants Pass community will have high-quality water always there when you need it. The impending construction of a new water treatment plant is a major part of that commitment,” said Canady.

The city’s existing water treatment plant is among the oldest in the state and replacement has been a top council priority for several years.

“I also know the council looks forward to celebrating our young poster contest winners as part of the future of the city’s great water legacy,” Canady said.

Local youth in grades K-12 are invited to submit their entries by May 1. Winners will receive a $100 prize. In addition to cash prizes, winners in each age group will be featured in the GP Now city newsletter, highlighted on the city’s social media platforms, and recognized during a city council meeting.

Using plain, unlined paper, contest entrants are asked to create a poster demonstrating ways to help protect the Rogue River by changing habits in the course of everyday routines. Entries should be on 8½” x 11” horizontal white paper and drawn with crayons, colored pencils, pens, markers, or watercolors only (no chalk or computer-generated art).
