[ARCHIVED] Mayor Moves Public Comment

City Press Releases Downtown

GRANTS PASS – Mayor Roy Lindsay is hoping to expedite city business at city council meetings. At a council workshop held Jan. 6, Lindsay announced that he would be moving the general public comment portion of city council meetings to the end of the agenda.

According to the city’s charter, the mayor has the authority to set the agenda and determine the order of the meeting, Lindsay said.

Citing concerns that those with business items on the agenda are sometimes required to wait through extensive general public comments before their item can be heard and acted on, Lindsay said he hoped to ease that requirement.

“It’s rather unfair for them to sit through an hour to an hour and a half of public comment while they wait for their business to come before the council,” said Lindsay.

Additional alternatives were discussed and moving the public comment session to the end of the meeting was the least restrictive option, Lindsay said.

The next regular meeting of the Grants Pass City Council will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15.
