Citizen's Police Academy
The Grants Pass Police Department holds a 12-week academy annually. This academy is designed to educate the public about the Police Department and to involve citizens in an interactive opportunity to get to know the officers and firefighters on a more personal level.
Approximately 25 citizens will be allowed to attend on a first-come, first-served basis. Academy dates vary from year to year, but the academy is traditionally held on Tuesday nights.
2023 Academy
The 2023 academy will be held Aug. 29th - Nov. 14th, 2023. Classes will be held every Tuesday from 6pm-9:30pm (dinner and beverages will be provided at each class) at Grants Pass Police Department or Hillcrest Fire Station. Dates are as follows:
• August 29th
• September 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th (16th* & 30th*)
• October 3rd ,10th, 17th, 24th and 31st (14th*)
• November 7th (4th*)
• Graduation on Tuesday, November 14th
*There will be four optional Saturday classes scheduled to include: Personal Safety (this is hands-on training), firearms, emergency vehicle operations (yes, you get to shoot our guns and drive our police cars) and S.D.S practical application.

Requirements
Citizens interested in attending should:
- Live in, work in, or be a current student within the City of Grants Pass
- Fill out an application
- Pass a criminal background check
- Participate in at least nine of the 12 nights
- Be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license
