COMMENTS Native, elegant conifer with distinctive reddish bark and a moderate growth rate. Water throughout summer to avoid drought stress, even for well established trees. Therefore, this tree should be reserved for the most hospitable of locations and where shade is available. OSU: "Western Red Cedar has been called the 'corner stone of northwest coast Indian culture.'" ODF: "Western redcedar provide valuable habitat for spotted owls and Vaux swifts." Features: native, evergreen, part shade, narrow canopy. Full sun to partial shade.
