OSU: "More tolerant of soils than F. grandifolia, otherwise similar requirements." Arbor Day Foundation: "The European beech grows in acidic, loamy, moist, sandy, well-drained and clay soils. It prefers moist, well-drained soil but has some drought tolerance." Features: fall color. Full sun (preferred) to partial shade (withstand). Susceptible to sun scald, may need a trunk wrap when young. Other cultivars not listed here need approval from Urban Forester.
