Native to southern Oregon and Northern California. Has deep green needles and a soft spongy red bark. The tallest species of all creatures, though do not expect its natural towering heights within our urban landscapes. Fast grower (24"+ per year). Needs ample growing space, so consider this for "planting strips" that do not contain sidewalks, or along streets where the sidewalk is curb-tight and the right-of-way planting strip transitions into the front yard without any paving between. The first Grants Pass Heritage Trees are Coast Redwoods at Martin Park (passed by City Council in 2021). Arbor Day Foundation: "Tolerates flooding." Features: evergreen, unique bark. Full sun to partial shade. Wet soil tolerant. |
