Commendations
Everyone likes a pat on the back when they do a good job. Grants Pass Department of Public Safety employees are no different. When you receive service from our Department that you feel is worthy of commendation, we would like to hear about it. You can communicate your comments to us in one of the following ways:

Please include all the information you can remember, such as the employee’s name, the date, time, and circumstances of the incident.
The employee will be notified of your commendation as will his/her supervisors, and a copy will be placed in his/her personnel file.
Complaints
It is the policy of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety to accept all allegations of employee misconduct and all inquiries as to specific practices and procedures from any person who makes a report to the Department.
By accepting all inquiries and allegations, the Department sets the tone that no person’s concerns or complaints will ever be ignored. All citizens must know that their comments, criticisms, questions and complaints will be courteously received and investigated. Complainants will be notified in general terms as to the result of the internal investigation.
The purpose of the investigation is to perpetuate the expectation that the public has a right to expect efficient, fair and impartial public safety services. Additionally, this policy will protect the Department by holding individual members accountable for their actions and the Department’s policies accountable to public input and review on a regular basis.
This policy will also protect individual employees against false allegations of misconduct through a consistently thorough investigative process.
To file a complaint against an employee of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, a person may do so in any of the following manners:

By calling or contacting the employee’s supervisor at 541-474-6370 or 101 NW A Street. If a supervisor is unavailable, a complainant may provide the information to a clerk, who will in turn forward the information to the Public Safety Director
What happens next?
Your complaint will be categorized in one of two categories:
- The first category, “Procedural Query”, involves all areas of operations and Public Safety personnel that do not outwardly involve an allegation of misconduct, and would not likely result in possibly disciplinary action being taken as a result of the investigation. These complaints may include rudeness, inappropriate action on a call, conduct complaints, and driving complaints.
- The second category, “Allegations of Misconduct”, involves all areas of operations and Public Safety personnel where the investigation may result in disciplinary action being taken against the identified employee. These complaints may include excessive force, misuse of position, possible criminal complaints, and negligent acts.
What happens with your complaint?
Every citizen complaint is reviewed by the Public Safety Director, who then assigns it to the Internal Affairs Investigator for assignment. In most cases, the investigation will be completed within 30 days. If necessary, the internal affairs investigator may request an extension of the investigation. The complainant will be advised by letter or phone of the disposition of the complaint.
