Fire and Life Safety Inspections are conducted on commercial occupancies located with in the city limits of Grants Pass. The inspections are performed following the International Fire Code (IFC), which was adopted by the State of Oregon in 2004. Typically a representative from the Prevention Bureau or an engine company from the Fire Rescue Division will come out to the business, perform the inspection, note any violations of the IFC, and inform the responsible party. A re-inspection is conducted to in sure the violations have been corrected.
Fire and Life Safety Inspections are also performed on all new buildings. These inspections are conducted during all stages construction, depending on the type of building and the occupancy. If a fire sprinkler system is required for the building, the inspections are conducted, even before the building is built. Under ground pipe is inspected and tested before it is covered up. After the building is built, the sprinkler system and fire alarm systems are tested to in sure compliance. Once the building is inspected and violations have been corrected, the building can then be occupied by the public.
TheĀ Self Inspection Program works in conjunction with Fire and Life Safety Inspections. Every July, the Self Inspection Form is mailed out with business tax renewal forms. The responsible party for the business will fill out the form and mail it back to the prevention office. The forms are reviewed and tracked. All of the emergency contact information is then routed to the 9-1-1 dispatch center so they can update their records.
